Placental Histopathology in Late Preterm infants: Clinical Implications.

Placental Histopathology in Late Preterm infants: Clinical Implications. Korean J Pediatr. 2019 Aug 19;: Authors: Ericksen K, Fogel J, Verma RP Abstract Background: The etiopathogenesis of late preterm birth is undetermined. Placental histopathology (PH) reflects adverse intrauterine environment and is documented to be associated with preterm labor and neonatal morbidities. The placental histopathology has not been studied in late preterm infants. Purpose: We investigated placental pathological lesion as markers of adverse intrauterine environment during late preterm labor. Methods: In a retrospective case control study following placental histopathological and clinical variables were compared between late preterm and term neonates. Placental: chorioamnionitis, funisitis, hemorrhage, abruption, infarction, calcification, syncytial knots. Maternal : age, substance abuse, pregnancy associated diabetes mellitus and hypertension, duration of rupture of membrane, receipts of antibiotics and magnesium sulfate. Neonatal: gestational age, birth weight, race, sex, Apgar scores. Standard statistical procedures were applied to analyze data. Results: Chorioamnionitis (50% vs. 17.8%, P

ConclusionStrict monitoring and control of hemodynamic parameters as well as meticulous fluid therapy is the cornerstone in improving outcome in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy undergoing renal transplant surgery.

Conclusion: Specific contexts appeared to be associated with problematic drinking for both sexes. Among both men and women, "social drinking" was associated with problematic drinking. Both "home drinking" (men) and "daytime drinking" (women) contexts, were associated with problematic drinking and depressive symptoms. Targeted alcohol-focused interventions need to address co-occurring mental health issues. PMID: 31519127 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusions: Reduced expression of ER stress markers in trophoblast cells against increased VEGF highlighted a new window to explore prospective drugs that can be designed to modulate the activities of various ER stress sensors in order to alleviate ER stress in pregnant women with preeclampsia. Abstract Objective: The aims of this study were to determine the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in women treated for infertility and oocyte donors, and to investigate the possible influence of HPV infection on reproductive outcomes. Study design: In this observational laboratory-based study, cervical swabs were collected from oocyte donors (n = 207), and women treated for infertility (n = 945) and analysed for the presence of high-risk HPV (hrHPV) genotypes using the cobas® 4800 HPV Test and PapilloCheck® HPV-Screening. Associations between hrHPV positiv...

In this study, a smartphone camera using an image-based colorimetric detection method was successfully developed for quantitative analysis of urine glucose. A horseradish peroxidase-hydrogen peroxide-3,3'5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (HRP-H2O2-TMB) system was optimized for a reliable and gradual color fading process via a glucose oxidase (GOD) catalyzed oxidation reaction. The color changes of the peroxidase-H2O2 enzymatic reactions in the 96-well microplate were captured by a smartphone RGB camera with subsequent detection of red, green, and blue (RGB) intensities decreasing at each image pixel. The highly quantitative relati...

Abstract This work presents a reliable analytical procedure combining micro-extraction by packed sorbent (MEPS) and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry to determine 8-iso prostaglandin F2α, 8-iso prostaglandin E2 and prostaglandin E2 in dried blood spots (DBSs). To reach this goal, we optimized a fast semi-automated MEPS procedure for the clean-up and pre-concentration of the analytes extracted from a single DBS (50 μL) by a 70:30 v/v methanol:water mixture. Limits of detection of about 20 pg mL-1, satisfactory recoveries (90-110%) and very g...

Abstract MicroRNAs (miRNA) involve in regulating different physiological processes whose dysregulation is associated with a wide range of diseases including cancers, diabetes and cardiovascular problems. Herein, we report a direct, sensitive and highly selective detection assay for circulating microRNA (miRNA). This detection strategy employs magnetic nanoparticles as the reaction platform which can not only allow online pre-concentration and selective separation but also integrates ligation reaction with amplification to enhance the sensitivity of the detection assay. With the presence of the target miRNA, the lo...

Authors: Friedman SH, Tamburello AC, Kaempf A, Hall RCW Abstract Prescribing for women in jails and prisons requires special consideration and should be informed by extant evidence. Incarcerated women have higher rates of mental illness than both females in the community and incarcerated men. Medication administration concerns that may disproportionately affect female prisoners include drug-drug interactions with contraceptives, intermittent dosing schedules, and concerns about metabolic side effects. Further, pregnancy, lactation, and menopause may all affect medication choices. Incarcerated women frequently have ...
