Comment on: A Modified Inpatient Eating Disorders Treatment Protocol for Post-Bariatric Surgery Patients: Patient Characteristics and Treatment Response

Benefits of bariatric surgery are vast and transcend weight loss, including long-term improvements in medical comorbidities, psychiatric disorders, and overall psychosocial functioning [1-5]. Despite the remarkable benefits of bariatric surgery, a subgroup of individuals may be susceptible to continued or de novo maladaptive eating behaviors post-operatively [6]. Most research in this area has focused on problematic eating behaviors expected to confer risk for weight gain or suboptimal weight outcomes after bariatric surgery, such as binge eating or loss-of-control eating; however, very little attention has been devoted to the identification and treatment of the full spectrum of eating disorders following bariatric surgery [7, 8].
