Working with families impacted by the opioid crisis: Education, best practices, and providing hope
The opioid crisis is well documented by a number of respected organizations and groups. Results of the 2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (2018) indicate the misuse of prescription pain relievers was the second highest rank category for reported illicit drug use and was ranked third among new users. This same survey reported that of the 7.5 million people having an illicit drug use disorder, 2.1 million specifically had an opioid use disorder.
