Publication date: August 2019Source: Chinese Journal of Analytical Chemistry, Volume 47, Issue 8Author(s): Fang LIU, Lin ZHANG, Zhi-Xin ZHANG, Si-Chun ZHANGAbstractAs a soft ionization mass spectrometry technique, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI-MS) can quickly and reliably obtain information of molecular composition and structure from plant tissues, especially the information of component distribution through imaging. Therefore, it has attracted more and more attention in the analysis of medicinal plants. In this paper, the application of MALDI-MS imaging technology in the analysis of medicinal plants was summarized and prospected.Graphical abstractMatrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometric imaging, as a relatively mature technique for the visualizing spatial distribution of molecular, is an effective tool for studying endogenous metabolites of medicinal plants due to its advantages of label-free and in-situ analysis, and has a very broad application prospect in medicinal plant research.
