Authors: Iqbal Y, Jahan R, Matin MR Abstract Although crisis helplines are an established method of suicide prevention, there is little research on their operation in developing countries. This paper reviews calls (N = 14,344) to the only suicide prevention hotline in Bangladesh during the first five years of the helpline's operation. Call characteristics were recorded on checklists, compiled, and analyzed. Results indicate that callers are about half male, mostly between the ages of twenty and thirty-nine, and mostly not suicidal. Callers display a wide range of reasons for calling, with relationship...

CONCLUSIONS: The combination of memantine with escitalopram was well tolerated and as effective as escitalopram and placebo in improving depression using HAM-D. Combination memantine and escitalopram was significantly more effective than escitalopram and placebo in improving cognitive outcomes at 12 months. Future reports will address the role of biomarkers of aging in treatment response. PMID: 31519517 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

CONCLUSIONS: Epidemiological figures emerging from this study confirm that trends in Lebanon are in line with a global pattern of decreasing age at menarche. Urban-rural differences suggest that higher caloric content of diet and consequent early overweight, more evident in urban areas, are likely determinants of younger menarche. Evidence from this study calls for an urgent implementation of comprehensive multisectoral obesity prevention in children in Lebanon. PMID: 31519350 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
