Effect of elderly status on complications in atopic dermatitis patients

Due to the limited data on the correlation of age and atopic dermatitis, elderly patients with atopic dermatitis were investigated for inpatient complications. Atopic dermatitis patient cases were analyzed using the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) database from 2003 to 2012. Elderly ( ≥65 years) and nonelderly adult atopic dermatitis or eczema patients were analyzed for differences in hospital complications and comorbidities. 1355 (33.7%) of the 4017 patients identified were elderly.
