Evaluating dermatology curricula in US medical schools

Background: Dermatologic conditions place a large burden on primary care providers, necessitating vigorous training on the identification and treatment of commonly presenting conditions. Prior studies have demonstrated that errors in diagnosis of dermatologic conditions and failure to consult with board-certified dermatologists result in poorer patient outcomes. Thus, medical schools can play an important role in providing appropriate education and exposure in dermatology for future practitioners.
