An adult with periorificial and acral erythema with erosions

Background: Acrodermatitis enteropathica (AE) may be inherited as a rare autosomal recessive defect in zinc absorption or be acquired due to insufficient dietary intake or malabsorption. Sometimes the triad of diarrhea, depression, and dermatitis aids in the diagnosis of this entity. Nevertheless, in an adult patient with multiple comorbidities and multifactorial etiologies for diarrhea and mood changes, a thorough history and skin exam is essential for diagnosis.
