Exploring the pathogenesis of skin disorder in “Yusho” patients: Possible involvement of aberrant activation of both NK cells and nervous system

In 1968, in western Japan, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB)-contaminated “Kanemi rice oil” had been used in cooking, and caused food poisoning to many people. This came to be known as the “Yusho” incident. More than 50 years have passed since the “Yusho” incident. Although the severe symptoms, which are recognized in early phase of this incident, are in a gra dual alleviation, various symptoms such as acne-like skin symptoms, respiratory symptoms, nervous symptoms, general symptoms such as general malaise are still observed in patients with “Yusho.” It is known that several classes of dioxin including PCB, polychlorinated quarterphenyls (PCQ) and pol ychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDF) are contaminated in Kanemi rice oil.
