How to navigate dermatology care for the uninsured

Literature regarding health disparities in dermatology demonstrates underinsured patients have worse outcomes, such as increased rates of hospitalization and length of stay. While the percentage of uninsured adults in the U.S. has decreased since the establishment of the Affordable Care Act in 2010, a variety of reasons, including the gaps in coverage and lack of Medicaid expansion, have left millions of adults without health care. These issues are multifactorial, in both ethical and practical terms, and the potential solutions are of value in treating some of our sickest patients.
