Keloid/hypertrophic scars and stretch marks can overlap and together have a greater psychosocial impact

Background: Keloids and hypertrophic scars (raised scars) are an abnormal form of wound healing with excessive connective tissue at the wound site, while striae distensae, also considered a form of scarring, appear as thinned skin. Both can be disfiguring, challenging to treat and can have a major impact on quality of life. While their pathogenesis remains an active area of research, their relationship to each other has not been studied nor the psychosocial impact of having both conditions.
