Teenage pregnancy incurs significant costs to young women, their children, and society at large [1]. The good news is that the teen pregnancy rate in the U.S. has dropped precipitously over the past quarter century, falling from a high of 118 pregnancies per 1,000 teenaged women in 1990 to a low of 43 in 2013 [2]. The bad news is that, even after this dramatic decline, nearly half a million teens become pregnant each year [2]. The rate of adolescent pregnancy remains notably higher in the U.S. than in most other developed countries [3,4].
