Efficacy of a Clinical Prediction Rule to Identify Febrile Young Infants at Low Risk for Serious Bacterial Infections

To the Editor I read with interest the article by Kuppermann et al. Results showed that a combination of complete blood count (CBC) absolute neutrophil count less than 4090/mm3 (to convert to ×109 per liter, multiply by 0.001), normal urinalysis results, and procalcitonin (PCT) concentration less than 1.71 ng/mL gave a 99.8% negative predictive value for serious bacterial infections (SBI).
