The latency period between type 2 diabetes and development of Coronary Artery Disease based on psychological factors

ConclusionsPatients with DM are prone to the early development of CAD, and psychological factors were associated with early development of CAD. Therefore, the findings of the current study can be utilized in designing preventive and therapeutic interventions, and implementing and integrating these factors in health-promotion programs for patients with DM can be useful.

In this study, a smartphone camera using an image-based colorimetric detection method was successfully developed for quantitative analysis of urine glucose. A horseradish peroxidase-hydrogen peroxide-3,3'5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (HRP-H2O2-TMB) system was optimized for a reliable and gradual color fading process via a glucose oxidase (GOD) catalyzed oxidation reaction. The color changes of the peroxidase-H2O2 enzymatic reactions in the 96-well microplate were captured by a smartphone RGB camera with subsequent detection of red, green, and blue (RGB) intensities decreasing at each image pixel. The highly quantitative relati...

Abstract Organic compounds and vegetable origin oils are subject to scratiny in the photonics and nonlinear optics area, due to their high non-linear response: a characteristic linked to the molecular nature of these compounds and their own chemical bond. In the food industry, quick and non-invasive studies are needed to evaluate the nutritional quality of edible products. The nonlinear optical response of 4 vegetable oils was analyzed: extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), extra virgin sesame oil (EVSO), extra refined linseed oil (ERLO) and virgin avocado oil (VAVO), using the Z-scan technique. Where the third order ele...

Abstract This work presents a reliable analytical procedure combining micro-extraction by packed sorbent (MEPS) and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry to determine 8-iso prostaglandin F2α, 8-iso prostaglandin E2 and prostaglandin E2 in dried blood spots (DBSs). To reach this goal, we optimized a fast semi-automated MEPS procedure for the clean-up and pre-concentration of the analytes extracted from a single DBS (50 μL) by a 70:30 v/v methanol:water mixture. Limits of detection of about 20 pg mL-1, satisfactory recoveries (90-110%) and very g...

Abstract MicroRNAs (miRNA) involve in regulating different physiological processes whose dysregulation is associated with a wide range of diseases including cancers, diabetes and cardiovascular problems. Herein, we report a direct, sensitive and highly selective detection assay for circulating microRNA (miRNA). This detection strategy employs magnetic nanoparticles as the reaction platform which can not only allow online pre-concentration and selective separation but also integrates ligation reaction with amplification to enhance the sensitivity of the detection assay. With the presence of the target miRNA, the lo...

WatsonAbstractCholecystokinin (CCK), through the CCK-2 receptor, exerts complex effects on anxiety. While CCK agonists are panicogenic, CCK-2 antagonists fail to alleviate human anxiety. Preclinical studies with CCK-2 antagonists are also inconsistent because their anxiolytic effects largely depend on the behavioral paradigm and antecedent stress. The controversy might be accounted by the neuromodulatory role for CCK in anxiety which is...

Conclusions: The results of this study demonstrated that more than a half of patients with diabetes had anxiety and/or depression and one third had Type D personality, sustaining that monitoring of emotional state and depression should be included in the therapeutic plan of these patients. New treatment strategies are needed to improve the well-being of diabetic patients with psychological comorbidities. PMID: 31491990 [PubMed - in process]

Mood disorders, also known as affective disorders, are prevalent among people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (t2d) [1,2] and frequently co-exist with a cluster of other medical complications including obesity, hypertension, cancer, and heart disease [3]. Mood disorders have been strongly associated with Substance Use Disorders (SUDs), implying interactions between both maladies, which affect the course and diagnosis of both [4,5]. Together and separately, mood disorders and SUDs have been widely linked to a range of chronic conditions, including t2d [6].
