CONCLUSIONS: Updated modelling which more appropriately captures PrEP programme delivery, uses current intervention scenarios, and is parameterized with data from demonstration and implementation projects is needed in support of more conclusive findings and actionable recommendations for programmes and policy. Future analyses should address these issues, aligning with countries to support the needs of programme planners and decision makers for models to more directly inform programme planning and policy. CONCLUSIONS: Low levels of NK and CD4+ T-cells in HIV/HCV-coinfected individuals with advanced liver fibrosis have been previously described. Here, we show that advanced liver fibrosis in coinfected individuals is associated to a defective function of NK cells and an increased expression of the exhaustion/senescence marker PD-1. This NK signature could not be attributed to changes in the ability of CD4+ T-cells to modulate NK cell function. PMID: 31536177 [PubMed - in process]

AbstractThe role of risky sexual behaviour has been widely investigated across the sub-Saharan African HIV hyperendemic setting, with few studies having focused on the behaviour attributed to the deep-rooted, neurodevelopmentally-driven adverse childhood experiences (ACE) that sustain the endemic. We investigated the role of ACE on perinatal substance use outcomes in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa, with 223 women being interviewed within one-week post-partum at a general hospital. Our secondary outcome was the occurrence of preterm birth delivery, which is understood to be linked to ACE. Study results suggest that th...
