Conclusions: Based on this study, males and females with ACTH-dependent Cushing’s syndrome present different clinical patterns. However, these differences do not justify different diagnostic strategies or treatment based on sex, considering the similar surgical outcome. Clinicians should be alert to diagnose accompanying osteoporosis (with fractures) in male patients with ACTH-dependent Cushing’s syndrome.

Conclusions: Most factors were reported by one study with no proposed underlying mechanism for their influence. Where reported by more than one study, there was inconsistency in reported associations and the conceptualization of complications differed, limiting comparison across studies. It is therefore not possible to be certain whether intervening on these factors would reduce the rate of complications after hip fracture surgery.

Excessive alcohol consumption leads to alcohol use disorder. Alcohol is metabolized to acetaldehyde, which is then oxidized to acetic acid by aldehyde dehydrogenases (ALDH), a class of enzymes that facilitate the conversion of aldehydes to their corresponding acids. Among ALDHs, mitochondrial ALDH2 is the primary enzyme involved in the metabolism of acetaldehyde. In addition to its well-known role in ethanol metabolism, recent studies have suggested that ALDH2 dysfunction is associated with a variety of human diseases including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, stroke, cancer, anemia, pain, osteoporosis and aging.

In this study, we found that senescent chondrocytes isolated from OA patients secrete more EVs compared with nonsenescent chondrocytes. These EVs inhibit cartilage ECM deposition by healthy chondrocytes and can induce a senescent state in nearby cells.
