Authors: Wego MT, Poualeu Kamani SL, Miaffo D, Nchouwet ML, Kamanyi A, Wansi Ngnokam SL Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the aqueous extract of Baillonella toxisperma stem bark on dexamethasone-induced insulin resistance in rats. A quantitative phytochemical study was done on the aqueous extract of Baillonella toxisperma for the total phenol, flavonoid, and flavonol determination. Insulin resistance was induced by intraperitoneal injection of dexamethasone (1 mg/kg) for 8 days, one hour before oral administration of different treatments (extract at doses of 60, 120, and 24...

This study aimed to examine the effects of warm steam inhalation before bedtime on subsequent sleep quality. The participants included 17 adult men with mild sleep difficulties and anxiety. All experiments were conducted in the participants' homes. The participants were instructed to wear a warm steam-generating mask or sham mask over the nose and mouth for 15 minutes immediately before habitual bedtime and were then allowed to sleep until their habitual waking time. The functional mask provided approximately 600 mg of steam for 10 minutes and maintained an interior temperature of 38-40°C for 15&th...

In this study, the gel point methodology is modified: 1) dying the fibres with Crystal Violet to enable the visualization of the fibrils sedimentation line without affecting the fibre network; and 2) by optimizing the sedimentation time to ensure complete settling. The two types of fibrils characterized -low and high fibrillated NC (LF-NC, HF-NC)- behave differently due to the slower sedimentation of HF-NC. The time to reach a stable sedimented layer increases with the level of fibre fibrillation, the charge and the decrease of fibre dimension. Reproducible gel point can be measured after 2 days for LF-NC; however, 8 days ...

Conclusions: These findings indicate that disability and cognition seem to improve over time after s-TBI and appear to be relatively stable from 1 year to 7 years. Since cognitive function on some of the BNIS subscales was associated with outcome on the GOSE, these results indicate that both screening and follow-up of cognitive function could be of importance for the rehabilitation of persons with s-TBI. Authors: Vincent-Onabajo G, Adamu A Abstract OBJECTIVE: A recurrent stroke increases the rates of mortality and morbidity after an initial stroke. There is, however, a dearth of data on the prevalence of recurrent stroke in Nigeria. METHODS: A secondary analysis of the data obtained from 100 stroke survivors undergoing physiotherapy at 2 health facilities in Nigeria was carried out to document the prevalence of recurrent stroke. The association between recurrent stroke and selected socio-demographic and clinical factors of the participants was explored using logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: Thirty-two...
