Predictive utility of cardiovascular risk prediction algorithms in inflammatory rheumatic diseases: A systematic review.

CONCLUSION: Our study confirmed that general risk algorithms mostly underestimate and at times overestimate cardiovascular risk in rheumatic patients. We did not find studies that evaluated models for psoriasis or AS, which further demonstrates a need for research in these populations. PMID: 31416923 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusions: When considering a child with an irritable knee, a heterogeneity of potential underlying pathologies and combinations of pathologies are possible. Importantly, the age of the patient and CRP can guide a clinician when considering further workup. Older patients with a higher admission CRP value warrant an immediate magnetic resonance imaging, as they are likely to have osteomyelitis, which was associated with worse outcomes when compared with patients with isolated septic arthritis. Level of Evidence: Level III—retrospective research study.

Conclusion. The spontaneous incidence rate of vertebral body infection among OVF patients was 0.7%; however, the occurrence of this complication led to serious events. Clinicians should pay attention to the possibility of bacillemia in elderly or immunocompromised OVF patients. Level of Evidence: 4

Purpose of review Autoimmune and immune-mediated diseases are considered contraindications for laser refractive surgeries according to the US Food and Drug Administration's guideline. This guideline, however, is based on limited case reports or complications reported during other intraocular procedures. There have been only a handful of new clinical studies that evaluate the efficacy and safety of refractive surgery in this specific patient population. The aim of this article is to review currently available research and offer updated recommendations for the evaluation and management of laser refractive surgery (LRS) in ...

CONCLUSION: Based on our systematic review, the epidemiology of IMIDs among immigrants varies according to native and host countries, immigrant generation, and IMID type. The rapid evolution suggests a role for non-genetic factors and gene-environment interactions. Future studies should focus on these pattern shifts, given implications of rising global burden of IMIDs and immigration. PMID: 31351784 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionSLE, IBD, and RA are AI diseases associated with a higher risk of HZ compared to that in older adults for whom vaccination is currently recommended, suggesting that individuals with these conditions who are as young as age 40 years could potentially benefit from the HZ vaccine.

Authors: Murdaca G, Spanò F, Contatore M, Guastalla A, Penza E, Magnani O, Puppo F Abstract INTRODUCTION: TNF-α inhibitors have demonstrated efficacy both as monotherapy and in combination with disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) in the treatment of chronic inflammatory immune-mediated diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriasis and/or psoriatic arthritis, and may be administered off-label to treat disseminated granuloma annulare systemic lupus erythematosus and systemic sclerosis. There are several TNF-α inhibitors available for clinical u...

Abstract The purpose of this study was to assess autoantibody incidence in patients treated with infliximab for various diseases, and the development of autoimmune diseases using a multicenter, longitudinal, open-label, phase IV observational study. All patients received anti-tumor necrosis factor (anti-TNF) according to local treatment guidelines. The autoantibodies assessed before and after infliximab treatment were ANA, anti-Sm, anti-dsDNA, anticardiolipin IgM/IgG, anti-Scl70, anti-centromere B, anti-chromatin, anti-ribosomal P, anti-Sm-RNP, anti-RNP A, anti-RNP 68 kD, anti-La/SSB, anti-Ro/SSA 52 kD a...

Abstract Interleukin 17 is a proinflammatory cytokine produced by CD4+ T cells when in the presence of a distinct set of cytokines and other cells. Preclinical and clinical studies have assigned a role to IL-17 in tissue inflammation and damage in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and systemic lupus erythematosus. Antibodies blocking the action of IL-17 have already been approved to treat patients with psoriasis and it is expected that they may also benefit patients with other rheumatic diseases.
