Association of hypoxia-inducible factor-1 α (HIF1α) 1790G/A gene polymorphism with renal cell carcinoma and prostate cancer susceptibility: a meta-analysis

This meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the relationship between hypoxia-inducible factor-1 α (HIF1α) 1790G/A gene polymorphism and the susceptibility to renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and prostate cancer (PCa).

AbstractWe prospectively validate the efficacy of the frailty discriminant score (FDS) in individuals with urological cancers, as there has been growing importance in evaluating frailty in clinical practice. A prospective, multicenter study was conducted from February 2017 to April 2019. We enrolled 258 patients with urological cancers and 301 community-dwelling participants who were assessed for frailty. Frailty was assessed using FDS that includes ten items, such as physical, mental, and blood biochemical tests. The primary outcome was the non-inferiority (margin 5%) of FDS in discriminating patients with urological canc...

CONCLUSION: Immunotherapy is a key treatment in kidney and bladder cancer. In the future, the identification of predictive markers should allow us to better select patients responding to immunotherapy. PMID: 31477432 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusions68Ga-PSMA PET/CT directly changed management in 42.1% of cases. Strongest detection rates occurred in those patients with clear cell RCC. The results of this study suggest there may be merit in the use of the modality in the staging of RCC. Further analysis, both with respect to histological confirmation, efficacy and cost-benefit, is required to determine whether there is a role for routine68Ga-PSMA PET/CT imaging.

Studies have identified that the polymorphism rs10069690 of telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) is associated with cancer risk, but the results remain inconclusive. We performed a meta ‐analysis of 45 published studies including 329,035 cases and 730,940 controls. This meta‐analysis suggested that the TERT rs10069690 polymorphism may be a risk factor for cancer, especially breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and lung cancer. Further functional studies are warranted to reveal the ro le of the polymorphism in carcinogenesis. AbstractBackgroundStudies have identified that the telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) gene po...

Despite histological evidence in various solid tumor entities, available experience with CXCR4-directed diagnostics and endoradiotherapy mainly focuses on hematologic diseases. With the goal of expanding the application of CXCR4 theranostics to solid tumors, we aimed to elucidate the feasibility of CXCR4-targeted imaging in a variety of such neoplasms. Methods: 19 patients with newly diagnosed, treatment-naïve solid tumors including pancreatic adenocarcinoma or neuroendocrine tumor, cholangiocarcinoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, renal cell carcinoma, ovarian cancer, and prostate cancer underwent [68Ga]Pentixafor PET/...

Growing evidence has demonstrated that epigenetic dysregulation is a common pathological feature in human cancer cells. Global alterations in the epigenetic landscape are prevalent in malignant cells across different solid tumours including, prostate cancer, non-small-cell lung cancer, renal cell carcinoma, and in haemopoietic malignancy. In particular, DNA hypomethylation and histone hypoacetylation have been observed in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) patient blasts, with histone methylation being an emerging area of study. Histone 3 lysine 9 trimethylation (H3K9me3) is a post-translational modification known to be invol...

CONCLUSIONS.—: Understanding of the molecular oncology of genitourinary neoplasms is rapidly advancing, and the pathologist must be aware of the practical implications of molecular testing. While many genomic abnormalities are not yet clinically relevant, there is an increasing library of ancillary tests that may guide diagnosis, prognosis, and/or treatment of many neoplasms. Recurrent genomic abnormalities have been identified in many types of renal cell carcinoma, and some types of renal cell carcinoma are specifically defined by the molecular abnormality. Two major routes of developing urothelial carcinoma have be...

Abstract We investigated the effectiveness of 11C-choline-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) for evaluating treatment response in patients with prostate cancer or renal cell carcinoma. We performed 34 11C-choline PET/CT scans before/after a combined total of 17 courses of treatment in 6 patients with prostate cancer and 2 with renal cell carcinoma. The 17 treatments including hormonal therapy, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, radium-223, molecular target therapy, radiofrequency ablation, transcatheter arterial embolization, and cancer immunotherapy yielded 1 (5.9%) complete metabolic response (CM...

Objective: Growing evidence suggests pretreatment fibrinogen can serve as a prognostic marker in various malignancies. However, there are contradictory results about the prognostic role of fibrinogen in urological cancers. We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the association between pretreatment plasma fibrinogen and survival outcomes in urological cancers. Methods: After a systematic search of PubMed and Embase, we included 14 studies in our meta-analysis, and estimated hazard ratios (HRs) for overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) using a fixed-effect model. Results: Our results indicate that pretreat...
