Bioinformatics identification of potential genes and pathways in preeclampsia based on functional gene set enrichment analyses.
Bioinformatics identification of potential genes and pathways in preeclampsia based on functional gene set enrichment analyses. Exp Ther Med. 2019 Sep;18(3):1837-1844 Authors: Li X, Fang Y Abstract Preeclampsia is a complication of pregnancy characterized by new-onset hypertension and proteinuria of gestation, with serious consequences for mother and infant. Although a vast amount of research has been performed on the pathogenesis of preeclampsia, the underlying mechanisms of this multisystemic disease have remained to be fully elucidated. Data were retrieved from Gene Expression Omnibus database GSE40182 dataset. After data preprocessing, differentially expressed genes of placental cells cultured in vitro from preeclampsia and normal pregnancy were determined and subjected to Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis to identify the associated pathways. Furthermore, functional principal component analysis (FPCA) was used to calculate the corresponding F-value of each gene. In order to further study the key signaling pathways of preeclampsia, an elastic-net regression model and the Mann-Whitney U (MWU) test were used to estimate the weight of the signaling pathways. Finally, a co-expression network was generated and hub genes were identified based on the topological features. A total of 134 pathways with a role in preeclampsia were identified. The gene expression data of placenta cells cultured in vitro for different durations wer...
Conclusion: In this study, frequent regular use of over-the-counter mouthwash was associated with increased risk of hypertension, independent of major risk factors for hypertension and several other potential confounders. PMID: 31709856 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

[The Conversation Africa] In Africa today women still die needlessly during childbirth. They also fall pregnant when they aren't ready, and don't want to get pregnant. And there are still many obstacles on their path to living full and fulfilled lives.
We report on the prespecified secondary outcome, echocardiographic indexes of LV function, from a previously reported study of the effect of lung ultrasound (US)-guided dry weight reduction on systolic blood pressure.Study DesignSingle-blind randomized trial.Settings &Participants71 clinically euvolemic hypertensive hemodialysis patients in Greece and Slovenia.InterventionThe active intervention group’s (n = 35) volume removal was guided by the total number of lung US B-lines observed every week before a midweek dialysis session. The usual-care group (n = 36) was treated using standard-of-care...

Marie Harvey, Linh Bui, Lisa Oakley, Jeff Luck, Jangho YoonAbstractWe evaluated the effect of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Medicaid expansion on receipt of preventive reproductive services for women in Oregon. First, we compared service receipt among continuing Medicaid enrollees pre- and post-ACA. We then compared receipt among new post-ACA Medicaid enrollees to receipt by continuing enrollees after ACA implementation. Using Medicaid enrollment and claims data, we identified well-woman visits, contraceptive counsel...
ConclusionLaparoscopic surgery is a feasible option for tubal stump pregnancy, associated with favorable pregnancy outcomes.
ConclusionThis study provides no evidence of benefit for postpartum administration of IVIG in women with RRMS.
Conclusions: Alcohol use was prevalent and under-reported among pregnant WLWH in South Africa and Uganda, similar to nonpregnant participants, and associated with depression. General health care and antenatal clinic settings present opportunities to provide integrated alcohol-based counseling and depression treatment.
After issuing a recall due to an impurity called NDMA, Health Canada urged patients not to stop taking their hypertension medications without consulting their health-care providers, but some may not have listened.
