Paraneoplastic Syndrome Associated with the Retroperitoneal Dedifferentiated Liposarcoma: an Atypical Presentation and Review of the Literature

AbstractRetroperitoneal liposarcoma is usually asymptomatic until it is large enough to compress the surrounding organs. Here, we report a rare atypical case of primary retroperitoneal dedifferentiated liposarcoma who presented primarily with the misguiding and challenging paraneoplastic symptoms of high-grade fever and thrombocytosis instead of demonstrating the usual compressive symptoms. Such an extremely rare clinical presentation may mislead the diagnostic and treatment approach towards the search for medical causes, without a hint, that the tumor itself is causing these symptoms. Complete tumor excision usually leads to resolution of these paraneoplastic symptoms.

ConclusionsAnalysis of various studies revealed a confusion about the botanical nomenclature of the plants and their geographical distributions. Absence of proper markers for identification of correct samples and improperly conducted studies on N. jatamansi were found to be the major hurdles to the use of ethnobotanical information and research findings into applications for human health. Development of markers using molecular, chemical and pharmacognosy based approaches for plant authentication and, in vitro propagation of authenticated material for easy availability of genuine plant material are the possible solutions to...

Abstract The present study was aimed to determine the phenol, total flavonoids and antioxidant potentials of Sargassum polycystum C. Agardh and Sargassum duplicatum J. Agardh from south east coast of Tamil Nadu and India using DPPH, phophomolybdenum and hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity. The total phenols, total flavonoids and antioxidant activities of S. polycystum and S. duplicatum were determined. Highest phenols (33.49 and 149.52 mg GAE/g) were observed in chloroform extracts of S. polycystum and methanolic extracts of S. duplicatum. The acetone extracts of S. polycystumand S. duplicatum demonstrated maxim...
