Osteoporosis is one of the most frequent diseases in postmenopausal women leading to an increased fracture risk due to the physiologic loss of the bone protective effects of estrogen. Hereby, several risk factors for fracture such as prevalent fracture, low BMD, age, low BMI, family history, tendency to falls, smoking, use of SSRIs, glucocorticoid use etc. have been identified. In this study, we found that senescent chondrocytes isolated from OA patients secrete more EVs compared with nonsenescent chondrocytes. These EVs inhibit cartilage ECM deposition by healthy chondrocytes and can induce a senescent state in nearby cells. Conclusion Women newly diagnosed with breast cancer can lose up to 6.8% of BMD during a 3-year follow-up. Chemotherapy and premenopausal status are important risk factors for bone loss. In this study, we show that calorie restriction is protective against age-related increases in senescence and microglia activation and pro-inflammatory cytokine expression in an animal model of aging. Further, these protective effects mitigated age-related decline in neuroblast and neuronal production, and enhanced olfactory memory performance, a behavioral index of neurogenesis in the SVZ.
