Method for Automated Selection of the Trabecular Area in Digital Periapical Radiographic Images Using Morphological Operations.

Conclusions: The shape of the trabecular bone area produced by the proposed method is similar and closer to that identified by dentists. The method, which consists of only simple morphological operations on digital periapical radiographic images, can be considered for selecting the trabecular bone area automatically. We herein present a case of dedifferentiated LG-COS with extensive cystic change arising in the right iliac bone of a 26-year-old man. The LG-COS was initially diagnosed and managed as a simple bone cyst. The lesion recurred thrice, and high-grade OS was diagnosed d...

Understanding how patients experience radiotherapy is a key element in improving care. People with cancer are increasingly using social media to share information and discuss healthcare matters. Twitter may provide a rich source of data on how people experience radiotherapy. The aims of this research were to better understand the role of social media in this context and establish what can be learnt about the experience of undergoing radiotherapy from a novel digital data source.

AbstractExternal fixation has a wide variety of orthopedic applications. Although external fixator frames may have a complex appearance, these constructs are formed from several basic components and can be broadly categorized into unilateral, circular, or hybrid designs. The introduction of computer-aided circular external fixation devices (hexapod frames) has simplified the treatment of multiaxial and especially rotational deformities. Serial radiography plays a central role in the evaluation of callus formation (at the level of treated fracture or nonunion as well as the regenerate and docking site with distraction osteo...

AbstractSkeletal fluorosis is a rare toxic osteopathy characterized by massive bone fixation of fluoride. The disease occurs as an endemic problem in some parts of the world and is the result of prolonged ingestion or rarely by inhalation of high amounts of fluoride. Radiographic presentation is mainly characterized by bone changes with osteocondensation and later ossification of many ligaments and interosseous membranes. Skeletal fluorosis is not clinically obvious and can be confused with other rheumatologic disorders. Its severity lies in the development of skeletal deformities and neurological complications. Management...
