Conclusions: This study suggests there is a strong association between AD and suicidal behaviours. Given the paucity of research in the area, there is a need to build the evidence base for effective treatment strategies.

Publication date: Available online 6 August 2019Source: Preventive MedicineAuthor(s): Francesco Acciai, Glenn FirebaughAbstractThe submitted manuscript is an original investigation of the U.S. mortality pattern from 2000 to 2017. Previous research has shown that the unusual post-2014 decline in life expectancy is related to the increase in death rates for ages 25–44, mostly due to rising prevalence in drug poisoning and suicide deaths. Our investigation reveals that such increase in younger-age mortality has had an impact not only on life expectancy (or mean age at death), but also, and to a larger extent, on lifespa...

CONCLUSIONS: It is reassuring that the absolute number of prescription drug suicides in non-abusers was small; the findings, however, are important because they could serve as a baseline for assessing time trends in future studies. For the present, we suggest that prescription drugs of potential abuse, especially those containing opioids and antispasmodics, should be prescribed and dispensed judiciously, especially to youth. ng Lijun Li The detection of difenidol hydrochloride, which is a drug that is widely used for treating the nausea and vomiting symptoms caused by certain diseases, has been increasingly involved in cases of suicide via overdosing and of drug poisoning in children. A novel electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor for the simple and effective detection of difenidol hydrochloride was fabricated by modifying a glassy carbon electrode with three-dimensional carbon nanofibers (3D-CNFs). The 3D-CNFs were synthesized by electrospinning a mixture of montmorillonite (MMT) and polyacrylonitrile, carbonizing the electrospun product...

Conclusions: Poisoning was predominant in unmarried young males from lower economic class. The most common type of poisoning was suicidal, route was oral and agent was chemicals. Vomiting and pain in abdomen were the most common clinical features. Chemical poisoning was highly associated with renal failure and aspiration chemical pneumonitis requiring ventilator support and high mortality. Chemical agent of poisoning, Intravenous route of poisoning, requirement of mechanical ventilation, duration of hospital stay were significantly associated with mortality. Authors: Yaylac─▒ F, Küçük Ö, Erkuran HÖ Abstract Paliperidone is a relatively novel atypical antipsychotic drug that is currently used to treat schizophrenia in adolescents and adults. The drug was generated by combining the active metabolite of risperidone, 9-hydroxyrisperidone, with osmotic controlled-release oral administration system (OROS) technology. Due to its specific design, the drug has been identified as a different form, albeit an active metabolite of risperidone. Such distinction mainly manifests itself during pharmacokinetic processes, because paliperidone is not affected b...

Conclusion: The common poisons ingested are organophosphorous compounds, drugs and odollam. Organophosphorous and odollam carries higher mortality. Pesticide regulation, use of less toxic pesticides in agriculture, early management and quick referral to well equipped hospitals will help in reducing mortality. Suicide prevention programmes like psychosocial support and counselling, raising public awareness about deliberate self harm and alcohol de-addiction programmes will help in reducing the incidence of deliberate self harm.
