ConclusionThe percentage of resolved aphasia was significantly higher in the treated patients compared to the non-treated, with the latter showing a higher percentage of global aphasia. Identifying classic aphasia subtypes after thrombolysis is still possible since reperfused areas do not necessary change the classification or lead to completely different aphasic syndromes. Reperfusion treatment, baseline NIHSS, and lacunar stroke were the main predictors of aphasia recovery.

We report a case of moyamoya disease with epileptic nystagmus. A 23-year-old woman presented with a headache and transient hemiparesis on her left side. Magnetic resonance imaging showed no ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke lesions. Digital subtraction angiography confirmed stenosis of the terminal portion of the right internal carotid artery and the formation of moyamoya vessels on the right side. 123I-N-isopropyl-iodoamphetamine (123I-IMP) single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) showed decreased uptake in the right basal ganglia, frontal, and parietal regions. After electroencephalography (EEG) and a hyperventila...

ConclusionHemiplegic spontaneous cervical EDH occurs very rarely. It is often misdiagnosed as ischemic stroke and is likely to be administered with thrombolytic agents, making the patient's symptoms worse. Early diagnosis and rapid management of cervical EDH increase the likelihood of complete recovery of the patient's symptoms. Therefore, if there are unilateral weakness and neck pain without cranial nerve dysfunction and there is no evidence of stroke in the brain imaging, spinal EDH should be considered.

Adagio Medical is vying to get its treatment for persistent atrial fibrillation treatment on the market. The Laguna Hills, CA-based company made significant progress toward the goal this week and announced it received an IDE from FDA. The firm is developing a catheter procedure involving an energy source that freezes tissue. Adagio said its intelligent continuous lesion ablation system (iCLAS) encompasses the One- Shot+ catheter, a corresponding console, and a protective esophageal balloon to mitigate the effects of the cold beyond the localized area of ablation. The anatomical approach requires a single transseptal punctu...

Mitral valve prolapse (MVP), which occurs when the valve between the left upper and lower chambers of the heart does not close properly, is significantly more common in patients with panic disorder/agoraphobia, according to ameta-analysis inPsychosomatics (The Journal of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry). The findings confirm longstanding speculation that the two conditions are linked."This highlights the need of a careful cardiac examination in patients with [panic disorder], many of which also suffer from MVP, ” wrote Umit Tural, M.D., and Dan V. Iosifescu, M.D., M.Sc., of The Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psyc...
