Authors: Al-Rawaf HA, Gabr SA, Alghadir AH Abstract Background: Circulating micro-RNAs are differentially expressed in various tissues and could be considered as potential regulatory biomarkers for T2DM and related complications, such as chronic wounds. Aim: In the current study, we investigated whether ginger extract enriched with [6]-gingerol-fractions either alone or in combination with vitamin D accelerates diabetic wound healing and explores underlying molecular changes in the expression of miRNA and their predicted role in diabetic wound healing. Methods: Diabetic wounded mice were treated with [6]-gi...

In this study, wound healing activities of 2.5% and 5.0% SA were evaluated in type 2 diabetic rats using incisional wound model. SA-treated diabetic wounds showed faster rate of wound closure and epithelization with enhanced contents of hydroxyproline and protein compared to diabetic wounds. SA effectively prevents alterations in blood glucose levels, serum insulin and dyslipidemia in diabetic wound rats. The SA-treated diabetic wounds after 14 days of treatment demonstrated inhibition of pro-inflammatory response (NF-κB p65, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-8 and IL-2) with improvement in anti-inflammatory response (IL...

Authors: He M, Long P, Guo L, Zhang M, Wang S, He H Abstract Aims: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) remains one of the leading causes of acquired blindness. Fushiming capsule (FSM), a compound traditional Chinese medicine, is clinically used for DR treatment in China. The present study was to investigate the effect of FSM on retinal alterations, inflammatory response, and oxidative stress triggered by diabetes. Main Methods: Diabetic rat model was induced by 6-week high-fat and high-sugar diet combined with 35 mg/kg streptozotocin (STZ). 30 days after successful establishment of diabetic rat model, full field electror...

CONCLUSIONS: As one type of multifactorial intervention, acupuncture could be recommended as a supplementary treatment in the management of T2DM, especially in those with obesity or metabolic disorders. However, due to the small sample size, poor methodological quality of trials reviewed, the amount of evidence is not fully convincing. There is a need for well-planned, long-term studies.
