ConclusionXpert SA Nasal Complete for MRSA detection, Xpert C. difficile, and Xpert Norovirus can be used as POCT solely by HCWs in a ward setting. Each assay was used throughout a seven-day/24 h period with potential positive impact on bed management and patient care.

Abstract The dormant resistant spores of Clostridioides difficile are transformed into metabolically active cells through the process of germination. Spore germination in C. difficile is regulated by the detection of bile salt germinants and amino acid cogerminants by pseudoproteases CspC and CspA, respectively. Conclusions: Differences between daptomycin and comparator for the primary endpoint were not statistically significant; however, prespecified noninferiority criteria for daptomycin were not met. With insufficient cases of confirmed MRSA, we could not evaluate daptomycin for MRSA AHO. Our nonvalidated protocol design yields valuable information for implementing future trials in AHO (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT01922011).
A total of 714 pediatric cases of Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia were identified from 2008 to 2015 in Denmark; 98% were methicillin-susceptible S. aureus (MSSA). Fifteen isolates (2,1%) were Panton-Valentine leucocidin positive (0.17/100,000 children/year) and 87% MSSA. Eight cases (53%) were severe, including all pneumonia cases. Panton-Valentine leucocidin positive Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia is rare in our setting with high MSSA-prevalence. Half of the cases were uncomplicated.
