In this study, we compare the effectiveness of presemester workshops at three northeastern research universities, each of which incorporated scientific teaching as the pedagogical content framework. The comparison of GTA PD program outcomes at three different institutions is intended to test theoretical assertions about the key role of contextual factors in GTA PD efficacy. Pretest and posttest surveys were used to assess changes in GTA teaching self-efficacy and anxiety following the workshops, and an objective test was used to assess pedagogical knowledge. Analysis of pretest/posttest data revealed statistically signific...

According to the American Psychological Association and the American Academy of Family Physicians, well over half of patient visits to primary care physicians are for mental health issues. So, as part of my book, I Have Been Talking with Your Doctor: Fifty doctors talk about the healthcare crisis and the doctor-patient relationship, I asked about mental health. None of the doctor interviewees disagreed with the important role that mental health plays in health care. CONCLUSIONS: Self-reported cognitive-perceptual symptoms of BPD fully mediate, while affective, behavioural and interpersonal symptoms only partially mediate the relationships between CEs and PEs. Recognition of co-morbid features of BPD in patients with mood disorders reporting PEs is essential. PMID: 29353179 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

TREATING A PATIENT with chronic pain in the ambulatory care setting can pose quite a challenge. Oftentimes, both the nurse and patient can leave the postanesthesia care unit with feelings of dissatisfaction. The patient may report that pain was not effectively addressed, or the patient may express concern regarding future pain management plans of care. Patients can experience anxiety around the actions of the health care providers throughout the perioperative process. The nurse may question why the patient's reported pain was not successfully treated or managed.

ConclusionsDespite some differences in prognostic factors for trial participants with knee OA who were older and had more chronic conditions, similarity of outcome predictors across regional MSK pain sites provides evidence to support targeting of treatment based on prognostic factors rather than site of pain. This article is protected by copyright. In this study nine participants took part in detailed semi‐structured interviews. Three overarching themes were gleamed from these interviews; self‐consciousness, which focused on the fear of others assigning blame to participants for having caused their own symptoms; avoidance, concealment, and hiding emotions, referring to the coping strategies participants employed in response to rosacea; and inconsistencies in treatment, which focused on the need for medical professionals to assess the emotional wellbeing of patients with rosacea. The findings are consistent with qualitative findings from patients with other skin c...
