Study: Rural Dentists Show Higher Awareness of Opioid Epidemic in Their Prescribing, and are in Good Positions to Fight it

A new study found that rural and nonrural dentists prescribe about the same number of opioid pills, but rural dentists do so more often in combination with ibuprofen or acetaminophen and at lower dosages. Rural dentists are also more likely to suspect patients of drug abuse and to avoid prescribing opioids to them for that reason.
