Request for Applications: Integrative Approaches to Dystonia

Request for Applications: Integrative Approaches to Dystonia The Dystonia Medical Research Foundation (DMRF) is seeking applications for collaborative studies applying integrative approaches to dystonia that will address the most significant and immediate needs in this field with special emphasis on cross-disciplinary research Dystonia is a movement disorder characterized by muscle contractions causing abnormal movements and postures. Despite substantial progress made in understanding various aspects of dystonia, there has been limited success in developing unifying and integrative approaches to study dystonia. To accelerate development of such cross-disciplinary and transformative research, the DMRF intends to support integrative studies that will fundamentally change our understanding of brain dysfunction in dystonia. Objectives We invite research proposals including, but not limited to: •  Systems-level neurophysiological studies aimed at identification and analysis of brain circuits and networks that are of relevance to dystonia mechanism and treatment •  Innovative functional imaging studies that investigate the role of brain networks in dystonia •  Cross-disciplinary studies of the role of the cerebellum and basal ganglia in dystonia •  Integrative approaches to study the effects of deep brain stimulation on dystonic brain function •  Development of new or creative adoption of existing...
