AstraZeneca Plc said on Friday a late-stage study showed its top-selling drug, Tagrisso, had significantly helped patients with a type of lung cancer live longer without the disease worsening.

The HIF-1 activation can be induced by low oxygen availability as well as chemotherapeutics in a reactive oxygen species (ROS) dependent manner. Here, instead of the traditional ROS elevation strategy, we designed a chitos...

This study examined the incidence of pathologic N2 non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and prognostic factors affecting survival in these patients. Methods: A total of 119 patients who underwent surgery for NSCLC (lobectomy, pneumonectomy) between January 2008 and December 2016 were evaluated retrospectively. The patients with pN2 included in the study were assessed in 2 groups; single pN2 and multiple pN2. Results: The most common type of resection was lobectomy (56.3%). Ninety-four patients (79%) received adjuvant therapy. Eighty-six patients (72.3%) had single-station pN2 and 33 (27.7%) had multiple pN2. The 5-year survi...

ConclusionThe cellular effects produced by SFN in NSCLC cells are largely mediated by SFN-induced production of ROS. Cells with higher levels of EGFR were more resistant to SFN treatment and showed resistance to SFN-induced apoptosis, suggesting that high EGFR levels protect cells from SFN-induced apoptosis. Despite this, we found that SFN retained the ability to inhibit the growth of NSCLC tumors with high-level EGFR expression in vivo.Graphical abstractModel for the effects of different EGFR expression in SFN-mediated cellular effects.

Conclusions: 3D semiautomatic quantification of PPV is feasible and reproducible using CT in patients with occupational exposure to asbestos. PPV measurement may be useful to correlate with other asbestos-related disease outcomes and prognosis.

Purpose: A common diagnostic dilemma in the assessment of small pulmonary nodules on computed tomography (CT) is in distinguishing benign intrapulmonary lymph nodes (IPLNs) from small primary pulmonary malignancies. Several CT features have been described of IPLNs, including attachment to a pleural surface. We had observed that IPLNs were often connected to a pulmonary vein and sought to evaluate the utility of this sign in discriminating IPLNs from lung adenocarcinomas. The frequency of other previously described CT signs of IPLNs was also compared with lung adenocarcinomas. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively ...

Abstract The progression of lung cancer is associated with inactivation of programmed cell death protein 1, abbreviated as PD- 1 which regulates the suppression of the body's immune system by suppressing T- cell inflammatory activity and is responsible for preventing cancer cell growth. It is of interest to identify inhibitors for PD-L1 dimeric structure through molecular docking and virtual screening. The virtual screened compound XGIQBUNWFCCMAS-UHFFFAOYSA-N (PubChem CID: 127263272) displays a high affinity with the target protein. ADMET analysis and cytotoxicity studies further add weight to this compound as a p...

We examined the trends in survival based on treatment modality among non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients in the province of Ontario, Canada, from 2007 to 2015. Methods: We investigated the trends in survival based on treatment modality. Results: Among 56,417 identified patients, the mean age at diagnosis was 70.1 years (SD = 10.7). Treatment modalities varied significantly over time (p

ConclusionsEven when whole tumor uptakes in patients with T3/T4 tumors markedly decreases after induction chemoradiotherapy, surgical treatment is still be indicated because of possible residual tumors. Tumor remission at extrapulmonary involvement sites could be predicted by extrapulmonary uptake values. Both whole- and extrapulmonary uptake values after induction chemoradiotherapy could be used to predict prognosis.

ConclusionsOpioid dependence in the over 65-year old population after lung resection is high but was significantly lower among those who received minimally invasive surgery, in addition to other factors.
