Authors: Sadeghi S, Pouretemad H, Khosrowabadi R, Fathabadi J, Nikbakht S Abstract Recent studies have shown the relationship between excessive screen time and autism symptoms. Unfortunately, there are no studies that evaluated the interventions for children with autism symptoms and excessive screen-time. This paper is a preliminary attempt to examine the effects of parent training on the duration of screen-time, repetitive behaviors and brain electrophysiological characteristics in young children with subthreshold autism symptoms and excessive screen time. Results showed that after the 2 months' parent-child inter...

AbstractDeciphering the massive volume of complex electronic data that has been compiled by hospital systems over the past decades has the potential to revolutionize modern medicine, as well as present significant challenges. Deep learning is uniquely suited to address these challenges, and recent advances in techniques and hardware have poised the field of medical machine learning for transformational growth. The clinical neurosciences are particularly well positioned to benefit from these advances given the subtle presentation of symptoms typical of neurologic disease. Here we review the various domains in which deep lea...

This study will evaluate the health care costs and utilization of individuals during their first year of enrollment in HOME and identify factors associated with higher cost and utilization. Secondary analysis of claims data were used to identify cost and utilization. Generalized linear regression and negative binomial regression were used to calculate utilization and cost. The mean total cost of care during the initial year of enrollment (n=239) per individual was $11,095.87, with $4,640.83 attributed to inpatient care. Those with diabetes (p=0.01), epilepsy (p=0.02), or mood disorders (p=0.03) were more likely to be admit...

Amidst all the summer hustle and bustle (and hopefully a few quiet moments for Mom), it may be easy for you and your child to forget that they’ll be back behind a school desk before you know it. That’s probably for the best. School m...

(CNN) — Water fluoridation has been hailed by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as one of the top great public health achievements of the 20th century, but a new study raises questions about its role as a potential neurotoxin in utero. The study, published in the journal JAMA Pediatrics on Monday, found that increased levels of fluoride exposure during pregnancy were associated with declines in IQ in children. Previous research has made similar findings, but this is the first such study to evaluate the effect of fluoride on populations receiving what the US Public Health Service considers optimal leve...
