Preclinical effects of highly potent MEK1/2 inhibitors on rat cerebral vasculature after organ culture and subarachnoid haemorrhage

Conclusion: The PD0325901 treatment did not improve the neurological score after SAH, nor showed any beneficial therapeutic effect on the contractility, contrasting with the reduction in neurological deficits seen after trametinib treatment. These data show that trametinib might be a potential candidate for treatment of SAH.

In this study, we used group-based trajectory modeling (GBTM) to study the characteristics of various groups of patients hospitalized with ACVD. In this research, the patient data were derived from the 1 million sampled cases in the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) in Taiwan. Cases who had been admitted to hospitals fewer than four times or more than eight times were excluded. Characteristics of the ACVD patients were collected, including age, mortality rate, medical expenditure, and length of hospital stay for each admission. We then performed GBTM to examine hospitalization patterns in patients who had...

ConclusionBetter understanding is needed of the risk factors underlying this worrying trend.Clinical service providers will need to adapt to better deal with the challenges specific to stroke at younger age.

In this study, we tried to translate this concept, the initiation of intraventricular NO application on top of continuous Molsidomine infusion, from awake to comatose patients who lack neurological –clinical monitoring but are primarily monitored using frequently applied transcranial Doppler (TCD).MethodsIn this observational, retrospective, nonrandomized feasibility study, 18 consecutive aSAH comatose/intubated patients (Hunt and Hess IV/V with/without pupil dilatation) whose poor clinical status precluded clinical monitoring received standard neuro-intensive care, frequent TCD monitoring, continuous intravenous Mol...

ConclusionsCumulative alcohol consumption is an independent risk factor of total stroke and IS in men in a community-based cohort. Even light alcohol intake increases the risk of total stroke and IS.

Gangliosides are cell membrane components, most abundantly in the central nervous system where they exert among others neuro-protective and -restorative functions. Clinical development of ganglioside replacement therapy for several neurodegenerative diseases was impeded by the BSE crisis in Europe during the 1990s. Nowadays, gangliosides are produced bovine-free and new pre-clinical and clinical data justify a reevaluation of their therapeutic potential in neurodegenerative diseases. Clinical experience is greatest with monosialo-tetrahexosyl-ganglioside (GM1) in the treatment of stroke. Fourteen randomized controlled tria...

ConclusionPICAD with ischemic stroke is likely under-diagnosed due to the following reasons; 1) patients present with neurological deficits that are non-specific and mild, 2) DSA, which is a gold standard of diagnosing PICAD is not regularly performed in these patients, 3) lack of predisposing factors associated with PICAD in some patients. The mild and non-specific clinical presentation in young adults with PICAD with ischemia probably due to their ability to compensate better given low incidences of other comorbidities. Further investigation regarding the underlying etiology of isolated PICAD, association of proximal PIC...

ConclusionsOur results demonstrate that treatment of intracranial aneurysms with the Neuroform Atlas stent is associated with low morbidity and a high aneurysm occlusion rate at mid-term follow-up. Further studies will be necessary to confirm our results.

CONCLUSION: LDS is characterized by genetic and clinical variability. Our report suggests that this genetically-determined connective tissue disorder is probably underestimated, as it might firstly show up with cerebrovascular events, although mild systemic manifestations. These findings could lead to identify people at risk of severe vascular complications (i.e., through genetic consult on asymptomatic relatives), in order to perform adequate vascular assessments and follow-up to prevent complications such as stroke.
