Incidental hepatic steatosis in radiology reports: a survey of emergency department clinicians ’ perspectives and current practice

ConclusionOur survey highlights the importance of clear communication between radiologists and ED physicians when incidental findings are encountered. Radiologists play an important role in alerting ED physicians and clinicians who have access to patients ’ radiology reports to the presence of incidental findings including hepatic steatosis.

Authors: Xiao W, Hu C, Chu C, Man Y Abstract This prospective pilot study presents a novel method using the dentin shell technique for the three-dimensional reconstruction of alveolar bone defects. Autogenous dentin shell (≤ 2 mm) harvested from impacted third molars was fixed at the recipient site as an external barrier. The space between the dentin shell and residual bone was filled with deproteinized bovine bone mineral particles mixed with concentrated growth factor (CGF) pieces. Autogenous bone (gold standard for bone graft) was applied to prepare shell grafts as the control. A total of 13 patients were inc...

Authors: Fistarol F, De Stavola L, Fincato A, Bressan E Abstract The aim of this study is to evaluate the anatomical characteristics of the posterior region of the mandible and their surgical relevance related to bone harvesting procedures. Fifty retromolar cone beam computed tomography scans were analyzed considering the donor site anatomies. For each site, linear measurements were taken of cross-sectional scans to record perpendicular distances between the mandibular canal (MC) and the vestibular and crestal bone walls. Data showed that the distance from the MC to the vestibular bone wall is lower in the ramus ar...

The objective of this study was to compare the novel extraction-site development (XSD) technique with spontaneous healing. Advanced alveolar defects (extraction defect sounding, classes 3 and 4) at 33 single-rooted teeth were treated by XSD (test), and 21 extraction sites of single-rooted teeth were left for spontaneous healing (control). In pre- and postoperative cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) data sets, orovestibular and vertical socket dimensions were assessed, as were socket areas. XSD resulted in complication-free healing with significantly higher radiographic bone fill compared to spontaneous healing. Applicati...

Material microstructure and strain value were analyzed simultaneously in 3D for the first time. The distribution of strain fields is nonuniform under load sequences. They are very difference that the strain evolution of the 3D morphological feature, th...

CONCLUSIONS: Patients with CLP and maxillary hypoplasia have a thicker and more everted lower lip than noncleft controls. Patients with BCLP have a significantly thicker lower lip than those with UCLP. Strain of the lower lip musculature appears to be an important contributor to the development of the cleft lip lower lip deformity. PMID: 31610716 [PubMed - in process]

Publication date: Available online 15 October 2019Source: Urology Case ReportsAuthor(s): C.H.F. Wong, H. Chau, C.W. Man, S.K. ChuAbstractFrom the literature, the managements for nephropulmonary fistula were variable. We would like to present our case and review the literature for the best method of care. The common features were 1) infected kidney; 2) ipsilateral lower lobe pneumonia or pleural effusion; 3) sputum and urine culture growing the same organism. Renal gaseous content may not be present on x-ray or even CT scan. The choice of management for the nephropulmonary fistula was diverse. However, conservative management...

ConclusionLWAT is a reliable procedure that provides sustained protection against patello-femoral dislocation and good functional scores when used to treat patello-femoral instability due to trochlear dysplasia. Our results do not support claims that LWAT may be associated with high rates of severe osteoarthritis even after more than 20 years.Level of evidenceIV, retrospective observational study with no control group.

Abstract A novel deep learning architecture was explored to create synthetic CT (MRCT) images that preserve soft tissue contrast necessary for support of patient positioning in Radiation therapy. A U-Net architecture was applied to learn the correspondence between input T1-weighted MRI and spatially aligned corresponding CT images. The network was trained on sagittal images, taking advantage of the left-right symmetry of the brain to increase the amount of training data for similar anatomic positions. The output CT images were divided into three channels, representing Hounsfield Unit (HU) ranges of voxels containi...
