A different technique in the treatment of intraparenchymally located needle aspiration: turn it around –see–move out

AbstractAlthough foreign body aspiration is common in children and the elderly, it is very rare in young people. However, headscarf needle aspiration is common in Muslim societies, especially in young people. In needle aspirations that cannot be removed by bronchoscopic methods, thoracotomy is frequently essential method due to the sliding of the needle to the distal part of the lung. A 21-year-old female patient was referred from our emergency department to our clinic with the preliminary diagnosis of needle aspiration. Needle was not visualized by fiberoptic bronchoscopy. Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) was performed and the needle was removed successfully by a maneuver which we encountered for the first time in the literature. Our patient was discharged on the second postoperative day.
