ConclusionOverall, our results suggest that G-Rb1 exerts cartilage protective effect on MIA induced ovariectomized OA rats, by inhibiting inflammatory mediators such as IL-6, IL-1β, MCP1/CCL2, COX-2, and PGE2. These results shed a light on possible therapeutic application of G-Rb1 in OA.Graphical abstract

a Rocha Pitta MG Abstract BACKGROUND: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by chronic and progressive inflammation that can cause a high degree of disability in affected individuals. Proinflammatory cytokines play central roles in the development of degradative and inflammatory responses in RA. IL-29 has been identified in RA and reported as a biomarker of the disease. OBJECTIVE: To analyze serum levels and accuracy of IL-29 in RA patients compared to healthy subjects and patients with other rheumatic diseases. METHODS: IL-29 serum levels were measured in 121 patients ...

n E Abstract The role of the patella is paramount in the transmission of the quadriceps muscle forces, the increase of the lever arm, the distribution of the forces on the trochlea and the centring of the extensor apparatus. Despite the low incidence of patellar factures in comparison with other lower limb fractures, the painful and functional complications, such as knee stiffness, loss of extension and patellofemoral osteoarthritis, can be very disabling and will often compromise the return to a professional or recreational activity and induce falls in the elderly population. Treatment can be conservative or surg...

Osteoarthritis (OA) of the hand is commonly treated using implant arthroplasty. Despite the increasing prevalence of hand OA, population-based evidence regarding the complication profile and associated cost for patients undergoing proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint and metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint arthroplasty are lacking. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the complication profiles and variation in cost of care for patients undergoing PIP and MCP joint arthroplasty.

In this study, we investigated the link between AF and senescence markers through the assessment of protein expression in the tissue lysates of human appendages from patients in AF, including paroxysmal (PAF) or permanent AF (PmAF), and in sinus rhythm (SR). The major findings of the study indicated that the progression of AF is strongly related to the human atrial senescence burden as determined by p53 and p16 expression. The stepwise increase of senescence (p53, p16), prothrombotic (TF), and proremodeling (MMP-9) markers observed in the right atrial appendages of patients in SR, PAF, and PmAF points toward multiple inter...
