Effects of Indoor Particulate Matter Exposure on Daily Asthma Control

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory airways disease that is initiated and maintained by a complex interaction between genes and the environment1. Since most people in Europe and the United States spend the majority of their time indoors it is likely that indoor environmental exposures are at least as important as those encountered outdoors2. Indoor particulate matter (PM) exposure can arise firstly through activities that involve combustion such as cooking and smoking, and secondly through inhalation of household dust, which contains a variety of aeroallergens such as the house dust mite (HDM) protein Der p1.
