ConclusionsMa huang-induced neurotoxicity may be associated with its effects on amino acid neurotransmitters. Gui zhi is a promising neuroprotective agent against for ma huang-induced neurotoxicity. The information presented in this study will help supplement the available data for future ma huang-gui zhi herb pair compatibility studies.Graphical abstract
ConclusionThese results indicate that QWDQW plays a role in suppressing excessive airway reaction and in specific immune modulation in a mouse model of chronic asthma and that QWDQW suppresses mast cell degranulation at defined doses of quercetin, β-carotene and luteolin.Graphical abstract
Authors: Jia X, Li S, Xu T, Ji N, Huang M Abstract Objective: We sought to evaluate the accuracy of periostin for the diagnosis of asthma through a systematic review and meta-analysis.Methods: we searched the electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, Web of science) to find relevant studies through December 31, 2018. Studies selecting, data extraction and quality assessment were conducted by two researchers independently according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. We used bivariate mixed effects model to conduct the meta-analysis.Results: A total of 9 studies including 1448 subjects with asthma were analyzed. The po...
Authors: Kwok C, Levesque L, DeWit Y, Olajos-Clow J, Madeley C, To T, Lougheed MD Abstract Objective: The Ontario Government funded the development and implementation of a standardized adult emergency department (ED) asthma care pathway (EDACP). We aimed to describe baseline patterns of ED use by adults for asthma in Ontario, Canada, and determine site characteristics associated with the EDACP implementation workshop attendance and subsequent pathway implementation. Methods: All Ontario EDs were offered EDACP implementation workshops by the Lung Assocation-Ontario between 2008 and 2011, and were surveyed regarding s...

We examined recent research on associations of prenatal and early-childhood exposure to the antimicrobial compounds, triclosan, and parabens, with the risk of asthma and eczema in children. We will discuss potential biological mechanisms of this association and highlight strengths and limitations of the study design and exposure assessment of current findings.Recent FindingsResults of available toxicological and epidemiologic studies indicate a potential link of triclosan and paraben exposures with asthma and eczema in children, as well as changes in microbiome diversity and immune dysfunction, which could possibly mediate...
