Invited commentary

Over the past decade, remarkable progress has been achieved for the open and endovascular management of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs). However, curative pharmacologic treatments for this condition are still  lacking, highlighting a need for improved knowledge of the mechanisms involved in development and progression of aneurysmal disease. One pathologic hallmark of AAA development is inflammatory cell infiltration, specifically macrophage inflammation, contributing to vascular remodeling and aortic w all weakening.
