Endophytic bacteria of desert cactus (Euphorbia trigonas Mill) confer drought tolerance and induce growth promotion in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.)

A total of 191-bacteria representing 13-genera and 18-species were isolated from wild cactus, Euphorbia trigonas. Bacillus (58), Lysinibacillus (36), Enterobacter (29), Stenotrophomonas (18), Lelliottia (12) and Pseudomonas (12) were the most represented genera. 16S rDNA sequence (>1400-bp) comparison placed the bacterial isolates with Bacillus xiamenensis; Bacillus megaterium; Bacillus cereus; Bacillus amyloliquefaciens; Bacillus velezensis; Brevibacillus brevis; Lysinibacillus fusiformis; Enterobacter cloacae; Lelliottia nimipressuralis; Proteus penneri; Sphingobacterium multivorum; Klebsiella pneumoniae; Pseudomonas putida; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; Stenotrophomonas maltophilia; Citrobacter freundii; Chryseobacterium indologenes and Paracoccus sp. This study was designed under laboratory conditions to isolate, identify and characterize some cadmium-tolerant bacteria from heavy metals-contaminated regions of Egypt. These regions included three sites along Al-Rahawy drain, Giza Governorate and two agricultural soils from Kaluybia Governorate, Egypt. This study aimed to assess, by molecular studies, the virulent nature of some Bacillus strains in live edible snails (Achatina achatina) sold in Nigerian markets and to ascertain the survival of bacilli during culinary preparation. Abstract An intracellular esterase (BCE) from Bacillus cereus WZZ006 was purified to homogeneity with an 89.5-fold purification, specific activity of 1.79 U/mg, and 26.7% recovery. The estimated molecular weight of BCE was 96 kDa which was analyzed by SDS-PAGE and MALDI-TOF-MS. Activity staining denotes that BCE has an unexplored new carboxyl esterase characteristic.
