Procedure- and hospital-level variation of deep sternal wound infection from all-Japan registry

ConclusionsHospitals that have lower risk-adjusted mortality rate of cardiovascular surgeries do not always have lower risk-adjusted DSWI occurrence rate. Also the incidence of DSWI varies across hospitals. We need to consider DSWI independently of the surgical mortality, while treatment should be considered at given local environment as well as in a multidisciplinary fashion.
