Rowing Our Way to Understanding Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Other Learning Problems

I have found that a rowboat provides an analogy that may help parents better understand the different types of learning and behavior problems. Different types of learning problems may present in similar ways, but they are different and need to be treated with different approaches. I typically start by helping the parents or guardians imagine the child is out in the middle of a lake, in a rowboat, going around in circles. We are on the shore trying to figure out what is going on.
