Systemic thromboembolic adverse events in patients treated with intravitreal anti-VEGF drugs for neovascular age-related macular degeneration: an update. Areas covered: The purpose of this review was to evaluate risk of thromboembolic events associated with intravitreal anti-VEGF. Expert opinion: Current data are insufficient to confirm the safety of these compounds, due to the paucity of specific studies. CONCLUSION: This study has generated the first published colour contrast sensitivity reference database for eyes at high risk of neovascular age-related macular degeneration. It has also shown a high inter-individual variability of colour contrast sensitivity in eyes at high risk of neovascular age-related macular degeneration, but the significance of this is unclear.
