Mortality in H1N1: A comparison of patient attributes in outbreaks due to A/California/7/2009 and A/Michigan/45/2015 strains. J Assoc Physicians India. 2019 Mar;67(3):38-41 Authors: Nawal CL, Agarwal S, Agrawal A, Prakash R, Mital P, Singh A, Chejara RS Abstract Introduction: The resurgence of epidemic of Influenza A (H1N1) pdm 09 was phenomenal in 2015 and has become an annual phenomenon. Antigenic drift and reassortment is the rule rather than exception, conferring survival benefit to the virus. As this disease has high mortality, we compared the clinico-epidemiological profile of patients expired in the year 2015 due to "A/California/7/2009" strain with those of expired in the year 2018 due to "A/Michigan/45/2015" strain. Material and Method: We collected data of all expired patients in our institute in the year 2015 from 1st January to 30th may as well as 2018 in the same time period. The data of 116 patients who expired in 2015 due to "A/California/7/2009" H1N1 strain were compared with similar data of 30 patients expired in 2018 due to "A/Michigan/45/2015" strain of H1N1. Patients of pneumonia, having age>18 years, positive for H1N1by real-time reverse-transcriptase-polymerase- chain-reaction (RT-PCR) and died in our hospital were included in this study. Clinical features and laboratory data were obtained from the hospital records of the patients. Data analysis was done using SPSS software. Result: ...

In an ideal world, all IVF clinics would be equally good. They would have high quality control standards; they would be open and transparent; and would share information proactively and routinely with all their patients .This way, whether or not patients got pregnant, they would have peace of mind that they received good quality treatment.Tragically, this just does not happen in India today , and sadly the government hasn't done a good job with regulating IVF clinics, which means the quality can be extremely patchy. This means that while we do have some world class clinics, we have some terrible ones as well, which take th...

Epidemiological and experimental works support the link between type 2 diabetes and breast cancer; these data support that insulin resistance, hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, and elevated levels of IGF-1 in patients with type II diabetes mellitus promote growth and invasiveness of tumor cells. The aim of the present work was to determine, by microarray, the mechanisms ...

This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT02176382.FindingsBetween Oct 15, 2014, and June 10, 2016, 269 women were assessed for eligibility. 76 participants were randomly assigned to 20 μg teriparatide (n=39) or 40 μg teriparatide (n=37), of whom 69 completed at least one post-baseline visit. At 15 months, mean spine aBMD had increased to a significantly greater extent in the 40 μg group (17·5% [SD 6·0] increase) than the 20 μg group (9·5% [3·2]; difference 8·1%, 95% CI 5·5 to 10·6, p

ConclusionsThis study shows that PIO can downregulate Twist-1 expression in the kidney, inhibit renal fibrosis and protect renal function in ZDF rats. These PIO-mediated effects are independent of glycemic control.
