Hearing Evaluation in Patients with Chronic Renal Failure: A 1  Year Cross-Sectional Study in a Tertiary Care Centre

Abstract(1) To study the prevalence of sensorineural hearing loss among chronic renal failure patients. (2) To study the correlation between degree of hearing loss and the duration of chronic renal failure. This cross sectional study was conducted in the department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at KAHER ’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and KLEs Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Belagavi from January 2018 to December 2018. 60 ears (30 patients) with chronic renal failure were included in the study. All 60 ears were subjected to ENT examination, pure tone audiometry and me asurement of glomerular filtration rate. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, suppurative otitis media, and other known causes of sensorineural hearing loss were excluded. The prevalence of sensorineural hearing loss was calculated among the chronic renal failure patients. The correlation, if any , was studied by statistical analysis between SNHL and duration of chronic renal failure, as well as type and degree of hearing loss. Sensorineural hearing loss was seen in 51.67% of the 60 ears with 18.33% had mixed hearing loss (p

Combined treatment with ultrasound-targeted microbubble destruction technique and NM-aFGF-loaded PEG-nanoliposomes protects against diabetic cardiomyopathy-induced oxidative stress by activating the AKT/GSK-3β1/Nrf-2 pathway. Drug Deliv. 2020 Dec;27(1):938-952 Authors: Zhang M, Zhu NW, Ma WC, Chen MJ, Zheng L Abstract The present study sought to investigate the effect of non-mitogenic acidic fibroblast growth factor (NM-aFGF) loaded PEGylated nanoliposomes (NM-aFGF-PEG-lips) combined with the ultrasound-targeted microbubble destruction (UTMD) technique on modulating diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM)an...

In this study, the resveratrol-zinc oxide complex is encapsulated with chitosan (CS-ZnO-RS). The synthesized CS-ZnO-RS could be used to deliver the resveratrol with minimized side effects and also improved bioavailability. CS-ZnO-RS were characterized by various techniques such as particle size analyzer, DSC, FT-IR, TEM, SEM, and AFM. The electron microscopic and particle analyzer confirmed that the synthesized CS-ZnO-RS were monodispersed, spherical and its average size was 38 nm. The drug-releasing profile showed that 95% of RS is released from CS-ZnO-RS within 24 h. In vitro studies confirmed that α-...

Authors: Aydin Ozgur B, Coskunpinar E, Bilgic Gazioglu S, Yilmaz A, Musteri Oltulu Y, Cakmakoglu B, Deniz G, Gurol AO, Yilmaz MT Abstract CD55 and CD59 are complement regulatory proteins suggested to be related with progression of diabetes and its complications. The stromal cell-derived factor 1 (SDF-1) and C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4 (CXCR-4) are chemokine proteins. We aimed to investigate the relation of CD55 and CD59 expression levels and polymorphisms of SDF-1 and CXCR-4 with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its complications. Seventy-five T2DM patients and 73 controls were enrolled. Expression levels of...

This study provides information regarding the health benefits of Katsura-uri and its utility in treating diabetes. The study methodology involved measuring the color and firmness of Katsura-uri fruit at five ripening stages, and quantitation of the aroma substances, proximate composition, and sugars. Significant changes were detected in the color, firmness, and level of aroma substances with ripening of Katsura-uri fruit, albeit with no major changes in proximate composition, with the exception of dietary fiber, and sugars. To determine the effects of Katsura-uri juice, the blood glucose levels of ten diabetic volunteers a...

Conclusion: Isolated renal disease induced by hydralazine as part of drug-induced lupus is uncommon. Our patient developed isolated classic lupus nephritis after hydralazine therapy with no associated systemic vasculitis. Treatment required stopping the hydralazine and initiating systemic immunosuppressive therapy to achieve complete remission. PMID: 32612474 [PubMed]
