Hearing Evaluation in Patients with Chronic Renal Failure: A 1  Year Cross-Sectional Study in a Tertiary Care Centre

Abstract(1) To study the prevalence of sensorineural hearing loss among chronic renal failure patients. (2) To study the correlation between degree of hearing loss and the duration of chronic renal failure. This cross sectional study was conducted in the department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at KAHER ’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and KLEs Dr. Prabhakar Kore Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Belagavi from January 2018 to December 2018. 60 ears (30 patients) with chronic renal failure were included in the study. All 60 ears were subjected to ENT examination, pure tone audiometry and me asurement of glomerular filtration rate. Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, suppurative otitis media, and other known causes of sensorineural hearing loss were excluded. The prevalence of sensorineural hearing loss was calculated among the chronic renal failure patients. The correlation, if any , was studied by statistical analysis between SNHL and duration of chronic renal failure, as well as type and degree of hearing loss. Sensorineural hearing loss was seen in 51.67% of the 60 ears with 18.33% had mixed hearing loss (p

In an ideal world, all IVF clinics would be equally good. They would have high quality control standards; they would be open and transparent; and would share information proactively and routinely with all their patients .This way, whether or not patients got pregnant, they would have peace of mind that they received good quality treatment.Tragically, this just does not happen in India today , and sadly the government hasn't done a good job with regulating IVF clinics, which means the quality can be extremely patchy. This means that while we do have some world class clinics, we have some terrible ones as well, which take th...

Epidemiological and experimental works support the link between type 2 diabetes and breast cancer; these data support that insulin resistance, hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, and elevated levels of IGF-1 in patients with type II diabetes mellitus promote growth and invasiveness of tumor cells. The aim of the present work was to determine, by microarray, the mechanisms ...

This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT02176382.FindingsBetween Oct 15, 2014, and June 10, 2016, 269 women were assessed for eligibility. 76 participants were randomly assigned to 20 μg teriparatide (n=39) or 40 μg teriparatide (n=37), of whom 69 completed at least one post-baseline visit. At 15 months, mean spine aBMD had increased to a significantly greater extent in the 40 μg group (17·5% [SD 6·0] increase) than the 20 μg group (9·5% [3·2]; difference 8·1%, 95% CI 5·5 to 10·6, p

ConclusionsThis study shows that PIO can downregulate Twist-1 expression in the kidney, inhibit renal fibrosis and protect renal function in ZDF rats. These PIO-mediated effects are independent of glycemic control.

The real world implementations of slurry erosion are limited and the processes that can lead to its expansion in the modern day industry have also been discussed in this paper. The limitations of slurry erosion have also been mentioned by taking examples from researches based on working of hy...

The aim of this work was to explore the feasibility of designing NTX-imprinted 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-based hydrogels for sustained drug release on the ocular surface. Acrylic acid (AAc) and benzyl methacrylate (BzMA) were chosen as functional monomers able to form binding cavitie...

We present a series of four adult sickle-cell patients who developed PRES. The association of hypertension, renal failure, and immunosuppressants in sickle cell patients may play a role in the development of PRES in this patient population. It is unclear if SC patients have a higher frequency of PRES predisposing factors than the general population or if SC is an independent risk factor for PRES. Despite this limitation, the presence of acute neurological status changes in adult SC patients should trigger suspicion for PRES as management and outcome may be altered.
