Conclusions: To our knowledge, this is the first BN model developed for the identification of acute appendicitis incorporating imaging variables. It has particular benefit for cases in which variables are missing because prior probabilities are built into corresponding nodes. It will be of use to clinicians involved in ultrasound examination of children with suspected appendicitis, as well as their treating clinicians. Prospective evaluation and development of an online tool will permit validation and refinement of the BN. PMID: 31406613 [PubMed]

ConclusionIn bladder endometriosis a combined approach with the urologist can assist in safely excising deep bladder endometriosis without removal of normal bladder tissue. Stents placed in the ureter assist in avoiding injury to the ureters. Demarcating the endometriotic nodule by the urologist through the bladder and excising the bladder nodule laparoscopically is both safe and effective.

Authors: Altomare M, Cimbanassi S, Chiara O, Salvi PF Abstract OBJECTIVES: Evaluate Alvarado Score's (AS) accuracy related with C-reactive protein (CRP). Evaluate the accuracy rate of ultrasonography (US). MATERIALS AND METHODS: We analyzed data on 290 patients admitted to Emergency Department (ED) of Sant'Andrea Hospital (Rome - Italy) presenting abdominal pain in lower quadrants between Jan2009-Apr2015. AS, laboratory tests, images and report from CT-scan and US were collected. Histological examination is considered as Gold Standard. We calculated Specificity(Sp), Sensitivity(Se), Accuracy(Ac), positive predi...

This article summarizes the imaging approach to pediatric patients with acute abdominal pathologies presenting to the emergency department, and how imaging is instrumental in guiding diagnosis and treatment, with emphasis on radiation safety, in the context of providing typical imaging findings of each pathology in this pictorial review.

ConclusionThe diagnostic performance of ultrasound using a standardized US technique was similar to that reported in prior studies for detecting perforated appendicitis. Despite low sensitivity, individual ultrasound findings and overall diagnostic impression of “evidence of appendix perforation” remain highly specific.

ConclusionNon-visualization of the ovaries with a non-distended bladder on transabdominal US study can help exclude clinically suspected adnexal torsion, alleviating the need for bladder filling and prolonging the wait time in the emergency department. Inclusion of non-visualization of the ovaries as one of the features in a predictive score for adnexal torsion should be considered.

is uncommon in Western populations with few to zero reports on endoscopic correlations. Although ultrasound or imaging studies typically detect advanced forms to be differentiated from acute appendicitis and/or Crohn’s disease, in more subtle presentations with an indicatio n of urgent ileocolonoscopy, endoscopy may reliably establish an unequivocal diagnosis.
