Canadian Journal of Zoology, e-First Articles. Recent studies have noted the differential effects of marine versus terrestrial diets on the carbon and nitrogen stable isotope (13C and 15N, respectively) diet-to-tissue discrimination values and incorporation rates for omnivorous and carnivorous mammals. Inaccurate estimates of these parameters may result in misrepresentation of diet composition or in the timing of diet shifts. Here, we present the results of a diet-switch experiment designed to estimate diet-to-tissue discrimination values and incorporation rates for tissues of gray wolves (Canis lupus Linnaeus, 1758) fed a...

We report a case of MCL with hyperleukocytosis that developed fatal hyperkalemia after a single low initiation dose of venetoclax.Case report: A 72-year-old man with known MCL was admitted for hyperkalemia and anemia (Hgb = 6.6 g/dL, K+ =9.6 mmol/L). Repeated K+ measurements and clinical evaluation were consistent with pseudohyperkalemia. The patient's lymphocyte count had risen from 15.2 to 466.8 K/uL in the preceding 1.5 months despite 8 cycles of ibrutinib. Based on the results of a recent phase 2 study Venetoclax was added; after a single very low initiation dose of venetoclax the patient developed fatal ...

Conclusion: Some patients with psychiatric syndromes and increased ANA titers may suffer from psychiatric variants of SLE, even if the American College of Rheumatology criteria for SLE are not met. Whether the psychiatric symptoms in our patient represent a prodromal stage with the later manifestation of full-blown SLE or a subtype of SLE with isolated CNS involvement remains unclear. Regardless, early diagnosis and initiation of immunosuppressive treatment are essential steps in preventing further disease progression and organ damage. Intrathecal ANAs with extractable nuclear antigen differentiation may be a more sensitiv...

Authors: Galil SM, Edrees AM, Ajeeb AK, Aldoobi GS, El-Boshy M, Hussain W Abstract Hematological abnormalities, especially thrombocytopenia (TCP), are highly prevalent among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and at the same time it has been reported as a significant prognostic factor of SLE course. We further investigate the correlation between platelet count and the clinical manifestations and disease activity of SLE, in a cohort of Saudi Arabian female patients. A retrospective analysis was done for the medical records of 100 SLE female patients, selected from all patients diagnosed and treated for...
