Pairing targeted drugs for breast and lung cancer could overcome treatment resistance

(Institute of Cancer Research) Targeted drugs for breast and lung cancer could be used together to overcome resistance to treatment in several different tumour types, a new study shows. Scientists discovered that when the breast cancer drug palbociclib was combined with the lung cancer drug crizotinib, the two-drug combination was significantly more effective against cancer cells in the laboratory than either drug used on its own.

Conclusion: These results suggest that apatinib might be effective for not only gastric cancer but also other carcinomas including lung cancer, colorectal cancer, cervical cancer, liver cancer, breast cancer, and nasopharyngeal cancer. ConclusionsOverall risk of cancer in our MS cohort did not significantly differ from the controls. However, the age at diagnosis of breast cancer was statistically significantly higher among the MS patients in comparison with a control population from the same patient pool. Further population-based larger studies spanning longer follow-up periods and longer exposure to emerging MS therapies are needed to evaluate cancer risk related to MS treatments and breast cancer risk in particular.
