Somatic mosaicism in adult ‐onset TNF receptor‐associated periodic syndrome (TRAPS)

ConclusionThese data provide additional information about somatic mosaicism in autoinflammatory conditions and provide new insights regarding cellular players that are indispensable for the phenotypic expression of TRAPS.

We characterized human peritoneal macrophage populations in patients with cirrhosis and identified a marker in ascites that might be used to identify those with a strong inflammatory reaction who are at risk of death within 90 days of development of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis.

In this study, differentiation between OB and LP in regard to clinical symptoms, biochemical analyses and the response to treatment in Buffaloes was done. Twenty buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) were admitted with a history of intermittent appetite, wasting and mild abdominal distension during the period between March 2016 and August 2018. All cases were female (12 recently calved, 2 pregnant, 6 non-pregnant) aging from 3-9 years and weighing 350-600 kg. For comparison, 10 apparently healthy non-pregnant female buffaloes were used as controls. Abdominal ultrasonography confirmed the presence of 11 OB and 9 LP in admitted...

Bacterial sepsis is a serious threat to the body homeostasis and is often associated with high mortality in non-coronary intensive stations. In order to survive sepsis, rapid activation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal gland axis and sympathomedullary system is necessary. In many patients with sepsis, the function of those two arms of the stress system is dysregulated with underlying mechanisms remaining unknown. In our previous experimental studies, we have demonstrated that LPS-induced systemic inflammation and CLP-induced peritonitis can result in adrenal gland damage. Histological and transcriptomic analysis revea...

BOSTON (CBS/CNN) – A new Chinese coronavirus, a cousin of the SARS virus, has infected more than 200 people since the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December. Boston’s Logan Airport is not currently screening passengers for the illness, a spokesman for Customs and Border Protection told WBZ-TV. That’s because there are no direct flights to Boston from that region. Additional health screening for coronavirus is in place at JFK Airport in New York, San Francisco International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport. The agency said the CDC has determined that coronavirus presents a low risk to the...

Feline infectious peritonitis virus (FIPV) is an alphacoronavirus that causes a nearly 100% mortality rate without effective treatment. Here we report a 3.3-Å cryoelectron microscopy (cryo-EM) structure of the serotype I FIPV spike (S) protein, which is responsible for host recognition and viral entry. Mass spectrometry provided site-specific compositions of...

We present a rare case of a neonate with PHACES syndrome (posterior fossa malformations, large facialhemangiomas, cerebralarterial anomalies, cardiovascular anomalies, eye anomalies andsternal clefting orsupraumbilical raphe) and diffuse hemangiomatosis of the ileum, presenting with multiple intestinal perforations and peritonitis. The infant was successfully treated with propranolol and methylprednisolone as well as octreotide, tranexamic acid, and supportive therapy for massive intestinal bleeding.

Interleukin-1 (IL-1) is a key mediator of inflammation and immunity. Naturally-occurring IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) binds and blocks the IL-1 receptor-1 (IL-1R1), preventing signaling. Anakinra, a recombinant form of IL-1Ra, is used to treat a spectrum of inflammatory diseases. However, anakinra is rapidly cleared from the body and requires daily administration. To create a longer-lasting alternative, PASylated IL-1Ra (PAS–IL-1Ra) has been generated by in-frame fusion of a long, defined-length, N-terminal Pro/Ala/Ser (PAS) random-coil polypeptide with IL-1Ra. Here, we compared the efficacy of two PAS–IL-...

This study assesses the effects of ivabradine, atenolol, and placebo in the setting of murine peritonitis. Mice that received atenololversus ivabradine both experienced a similar and significant decline in heart rate. The mice in the atenolol group also experienced a significant decrease in cardiac output, systolic blood pressure, and left ventricular systolic function that was not experienced by the mice who received ivabradine.Mice who received atenolol versus ivabradine versus placebo did not have significantly different survival 60 h after induction of sepsis. Future studies are needed to determine the value of ivabrad...
