Cystoscopic transurethral incision in simple and duplex ureteroceles – is it the definitive procedure?

The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of primary cystoscopic transurethral incision (CTUI) in the management of pediatric ureteroceles. The secondary aim is to compare the efficacy of CTUI between simplex and duplex systems.

This review examines the current standards in the diagnosis and management of this disease. Cystoscopy and urine cytology remain important tools in the diagnosis and follow-up of bladder cancer. Alternatives include photodynamic diagnosis, narrow band imaging and professional image enhancement which may improve detection of tumours. En-bloc resection using either laser or electrocautery shows p...

ConclusionThe migrated IUD in the bladder was successfully and completely extracted by the method combining various endoscopes; operative time was 56 minutes. In the follow-up period the patient did not report any symptoms of frequency urination. This surgical process has the following characteristics: Preoperative examination should be performed to clarify the ectopic site of the IUD, various endoscopes should be combined for diagnosis and treatment, and endoscopic surgery is an effective treatment method for migrated IUD.

This article provides a clear framework to help decide which patients have significant haematuria and which patients are suitable for urological referral; a decision algorithm is also included. We discuss how to investigate such patients further, including points not to forget when taking a history or conducting physical examination. Explanations are provided as to why current management strategies exist and what the potential flaws are of each method, including the ubiquitous urine dipstick test, urine cytology, cystoscopy and the modern radiological techniques used in everyday clinical practice. We provide guidance on wh...

This study was carried out across two sites between September 2016 and July 2017. In site A, a magnetic stent (Urotech, Black-Star ®) is removed by magnetic retrieval device. Fifty consecutive patients completed the validated Ureteric Stent Symptom Questionnaire (USSQ) and visual analogue scale (VAS) at the time of stent removal. On site B, a soft polyurethane stent (Cook Universa) was removed by flexible cystoscopy. Fifty pat ients were identified retrospectively and completed questionnaires by post. Cost analysis was also performed.ResultsOne hundred questionnaires were included for analysis. No significant differenc...

This study reports the re-operation and symptom resolution rates of different techniques used in surgical excision of genitourinary mesh erosions. A comprehensive systematic review was completed after searching electronic databases for studies involving outcomes of mesh erosion in humans that were managed surgically using a transvaginal, cystoscopic, or abdominal approach. Surgical outcomes were reported in percentages, ranges, and simple pooling to generate trends in management techniques. There were 177 cases that met our inclusion criteria.

ConclusionThe SOS appeared to be well tolerated and showed similar complication rates as the CS. The use of SOS resulted in a significant cost saving and increased the availability of cystoscopy for other indications.

Abstract Although urine cytology and cystoscopy are current gold standard methods in diagnosis and surveillance of Bladder cancer (BC), they have some limitations which necessitates novel diagnostic approaches to compensate their drawbacks. In this regard, Nuclear Matrix Protein 22 (NMP22) is introduced as a potential tumor biomarker for BC detection (FDA approved). NMP22 determination mainly occurs through immunoassay platforms, raising a proper antibody against its antigen. Hence, development of such immunoassays seems crucial. Various bioinformatic tools were harnessed to select a region with lowest variability...

ConclusionIn bladder endometriosis a combined approach with the urologist can assist in safely excising deep bladder endometriosis without removal of normal bladder tissue. Stents placed in the ureter assist in avoiding injury to the ureters. Demarcating the endometriotic nodule by the urologist through the bladder and excising the bladder nodule laparoscopically is both safe and effective.

ConclusionThere are few studies analysing the improvement of the NMIBC surveillance protocols. Several transcription factor assays are more precise and allow anticipatory diagnosis. Currently, there are no comparative studies between alternative surveillance protocols and classic ones.
